Last night I had a dream that I was stuffing a cereal box with plastic bags. I woke up with the image still on my mind. My inner voice said " you have an empty cereal box and you have plastic bags, go do it, let's see what happens". As I was stuffing the box, I thought, what if I cover the box with paper mache. I did that, let it dry, and painted it with white gesso. Now I had what resembled an 8 by 9 faux gallery wrapped canvas. This is what I started with....
Any cardboard that you can save from the recycle bin, plastic bags, masking tape, torn pieces of newspaper, white gesso, watercolors and collage papers. My intuition must have been on overdrive because this is what happened next....
As I was ripping the news paper, I randomly ended up with two heart shaped pieces, one which reads "do you find yourself unable to do the things you love to do?" and the other, which you see in the first photo, reads, "your voice counts". I took this as a sign, telling me to get out of the funk I have been in lately and paint. The background is white on white, the face is painted in watercolor, and I attached a hanging wire to the backside.
Goodness, Cory! I wish I had dreams like this! I love this piece and I think I love your painting better than your jewelry! Who knew? LOL Truly this is fabulous. I wish I could get inspired. I have the desire but lack of energy and inspiration most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI love it when we listen to ourselves, don't you? What a cool idea, that never would have come up if you hadn't just gone with your original, somewhat whacky dream!
