sweet revenge

It was a rainy day in Paris when he packed his bags and walked out of her life, leaving behind his favorite navy blazer and red tie.  In anger and tears, she ripped the blazer to shreds and cut up the tie.  She then tore into the collection of jewelry that he had gifted her.  Today she redesigns jewelry from those shreds of fabric, the silk from the tie, the buttons off the blazer, the broken jewelry, and other found objects...

An embellished tie became a cuff, buttons decorate a bangle and the red bead represents rage.... my new line of jewelry is properly called Sweet Revenge.

The story is fake, but the ties are real.  I inherited them from my best friend Phil who passed a few years ago and I miss him.  Sweet Revenge is real, be on the lookout for it.

the window opened

Title:  PIECES OF OCTOBER
Mixed Media Collage - detail
SOLD

September 10th, my house was burglarized and literally trashed. What they didn't take, they destroyed. They tore open boxes of art materials and dumped them everywhere.  Among these, my collage papers....I watched as the police took DNA swipes and walked on my handmade papers.  A few days later as I was picking up what was salvageable, I could here my mother's voice like a whisper in my mind, saying, "God never closes a door without opening a window".   I threw the collage papers into a box where they incubated for a few more days.  Somewhere along the way I started to piece together the salvaged collage papers and my drawings, like a puzzle.  That's when I realized that God had opened the window.    GICLEES of this  and other artworks by CORY may be purchased upon request.  Information by email.  artwithmoxie@cox.net

Daniel the shaman

I was drawn to Daniel's sculptured features and to his hair which is an art form in itself.   He allowed me to use his image for some paintings.  I work intuitively, and usually about half way into the process, my paintings kind of take over and begin to tell a story.  Here is the story and the painting.

Somewhere into the painting process, Daniel becomes a curandero, a shaman, a healer. The texture on his head, which was put there to lower the value tone, andsuddenly becomes an alphabet of symbols, messages from his ancestors.  Automatic writings cut across the lower part of the painting with words only Daniel can decipher.  On the lower right section are botanical scribbles, giving Daniel an insight on what "yerbas" (herbs) to use for healings.  In the space behind his profile appear groupings of people.  Who are they?  How did they get there?   And, in the dark area below his neck appear the letters DF, his name is Daniel Fabian.  They were not put there intentionally, and I do not believe in coincidence.   Do you?

Thank you Daniel for being the inspiration

xox copper pipe necklace

RECYCLED COPPER PIPE NECKLACE
by CORY

I have a wonderful mechanic who is great at fixing cars but not so great at tossing stuff into the garbage can, he misses the mark.  That is fine with me because while he works on my car, I pick up debris.  This is my latest find...a soldered and cut copper pipe.  It was grungy, covered in dirt and grime, plus it had been run over and over who knows how many times.  I took it home cleaned it, polished it and discovered some beautiful colors under the grime.   This is the result, a long necklace made from mixed metals with a smashed button xox charm.

new gallery

This necklace is one of several pieces selected to show in a gallery called ART STOP in Ajo, Arizona.  I will also show handcrafted purses and paintings.  My friend Joyce Harcharick introduced me to the gallery where she also shows and sells her beautiful paintings and prints.  Thanks Joyce.

The necklace below is one of many, including several purses, which were in a boutique called Cherish Boutique in Fort Collins, Colorado.  The owner called several times to inform me about purchases and that she would be sending a check,  which by the way never arrived.  I contacted her over and over and asked that the merchandise be returned, that too fell on deaf ears.  I was informed that she was not in on the few times I was in Fort Collins and had stopped by to get my stuff.  In the end, no money, no merchandise.  That really left a bad taste in my mouth.   Has this ever happened to you?  I hope not....

kalmbach bead soup party

 Title:  MIDNIGHT RAIN

What a privilege to be asked to participate in the Kalmbach Bead Soup Party.  The wonderful people of Bead World in Glendale AZ. furnished the beads for the challenge.  All this inspired by the originator of Bead Soup, Lori Anderson who just wrote a book on some of the bead soup challenges, published by Kalmbach Publishing Co.   The necklace titled MIDNIGHT RAIN was inspired by a water fountain in front of my friend Gail's apartment. She loves and collects my jewelry as much as she loves her peaceful water fountain. I intuitively gathered items to add to the beads and among these were black fibers, warm brass beads, and vintage chain.  The only thing I wanted, was to keep the necklace fluid.  I started with a free form needle woven base to which I added the fused glass focal, beads to mimic flowers in the garden and the fluid chains and dangles.
Bead World was so generous with these beautiful beads, that I chose to make a second piece....

This time I decided to make a wrist cuff using the lace off a bodice of a thrift store evening gown.  I embellished it with the beautiful beads, added a handmade silk tassel, and lined it with soft deerskin.  These are the beads that I received...

I love the colors and textures of the beads and the beautiful small fused glass focal.  I will admit that because I am an intuitive designer, the palette will more than likely change, and change it did, with the addition of the black fiber on the necklace.  I went with it, thus the name Midnight Rain.  Not so much on the cuff, the palette pretty much remained true to form.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this creation.

create art cuff

Scraps of Paper Leather were used to create a wide cuff.  I wanted to create an extra sample of work as inspiration for the students in Tucson.  Everyone made a lovely sheet of paper leather, and each had a choice of either making a cuff, a wall hanging, or use it to create a journal cover.

The cuff that I made has stained antique lace, paper leather, a fabric bead, a faux jade charm, a polymer clay motif, and 2 brass pieces, one stamped with the word CREATE and the other with the word ART.

This piece will be available for purchase on my Etsy shop,

Visit Create With Moxie to see my latest artwork on paper.
